The largest water management company in Lithuania "Vilniaus vandenys" announces that it has completed the more than 15 million renovation of the water management infrastructure and development of networks project, for the implementation of which half of the total funds are allocated from the European Union funds. Although the company built almost 28 km of new water supply and over 30 km of sewage networks during the project, residents are in no hurry to connect to the new infrastructure.
During the implemented project, after the construction of the new infrastructure of the water management sector, 3080 residents were able to connect to the new water supply networks, and 3412 to the sewage networks. New networks built - in Antakalni, in Salininkai, in the Rasa district, in New Vilnius and Šnipiškės.
As the Vice Mayor of Vilnius observes Valdas Benkunskas, although the city is expanding and residents are provided with opportunities to connect to new centralized networks, a significant part of the population still does not use these opportunities.
"As the city expands, so does our city's infrastructure, residents are given opportunities not only to make their daily lives easier, but also to look responsibly at nature-friendly solutions." We encourage residents to connect to centralized networks without delay, as well as to actively use the support provided by the city when connecting to them," says V. Benkunskas.
Since residents who want to connect to centralized networks have to build branches leading from their property to the networks, Vilnius city municipality provides special support to the residents of the capital. You can find more about it HERE.

"The centralized water supply system provides an opportunity to get quality and clean water, residents no longer need to take care of the maintenance of the well or borehole, to check and ensure the water quality themselves. We also encourage those who still have outdoor toilets, where wastewater management does not meet the requirements, to join the centralized wastewater management system, in accordance with legislation and fines are provided for this. Using centralized systems reduces the worries that arise in the maintenance and cleaning of sewage treatment plants and wells, thereby ensuring greater cleanliness and environmental protection of the surrounding reservoirs," says S. Savickas, general director of the Vilniaus vandenys company.
According to the requirements of the Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive of the European Commission, at least 98% of the densely populated areas of our country residents must be connected to a centralized wastewater management system.
During the last two years 2020-2021, the company completed network development projects, the total length of which reached: 36,6 km of water supply networks and 47,5 km of sewage collection networks. Accordingly, 1701 households were given the opportunity to connect to water supply networks and 2266 households to sewage networks.
