A landslide occurred on the southern slope of Mount Gediminas after the rain that lasted all day on Monday, but there is no threat to the stability of the mountain, the site supervisor said. Lithuanian National Museum.
According to the agency, the fixed landslide is small, about nine meters wide and more than 20 meters long.
"The landslide that occurred is a surface-filled soil and does not pose a threat to the stability of the mountain. The liquidation works of the accident will be started immediately according to the permanent emergency emergency works contract," the report states.
The museum points out that it constantly follows the weather forecasts and the monitoring system installed on the mountain, and carries out a daily physical inspection of all the slopes of the mountain.
According to him, the slopes of Mount Gediminas were inspected and their condition after a rainy day was assessed. In the rest of the slopes, ground deformations are currently not recorded.
The condition of Mount Gediminas, until the long-term maintenance project is implemented, still depends on the weather.
This year, the National Museum of Lithuania has already signed a preliminary contract with the company "Rekreacinė statyba" for the final renovation of the southeastern part of Mount Gediminas.
The works should take three years and cost about 13,4 million. euros, but the museum is currently negotiating with the ministries regarding the financing of this project.
The state of the mountain is concerned after the large landslides that occurred in February 2016. Then it was temporarily forbidden to visit it, an emergency was declared.
