As the winter holidays end, residents are encouraged to use the Christmas tree collection network set up by the city municipality. There are more and more specially designated places every year, with over 90 of them planned this season, all of which will be ready for use by Three Kings Day, January 6.
The municipality reminds that the idea of leaving Christmas trees next to mixed municipal waste containers or simply throwing them out of the balcony is very bad. A fine of up to 600 euros can be imposed for polluting your environment and that of your neighbors. It has been agreed with the waste transporters that fir trees will be transported from special collection points for disposal or to composting sites throughout the month of January.
Also, Christmas trees can be added to all large-sized and green waste collection sites in the Vilnius region (these are more suitable). Christmas trees planted in pots are also accepted - they will later be planted in waste collection areas.
It is also worth thinking about the fact that Christmas trees are suitable for secondary use. They make a great cover for frost-sensitive plants in the garden or yard if you haven't taken care of it yet, and a thin layer of spruce branches can make a great base for a compost bin.
If you decorated a live Christmas tree for the holidays, we invite you to join us in creating a Christmas forest - Vilnius city municipality is planning a new, annual campaign, which will help preserve at least part of the green rocks and at the same time create an impressive green space near the Verkių Palace, in the Verkių Regional Park.
It is planned that trees can be planted in the Christmas forest from March, but everything will depend on the weather conditions. The exact planting date is yet to be announced. Until then, don't forget to water your trees and spray their branches.
