Modern dog walking and training grounds will be installed in Verkių and Pashilaičiai townships this summer. Installation works will be performed by UAB "Beam".
Vilnius people love animals. In almost every home, we would find a family raising one or even several four-legged friends that need to be walked and trained every day. The need for special dog walking areas in the city is high, therefore Vilnius city municipalities duty - to provide all conditions for people to spend time actively outdoors with their pets, without posing a threat to health and well-being.
In order to create not only aesthetically-looking, but also functional spaces where residents of the capital could safely walk their pets, Medeinos st. 31, it is planned to install a common one, and Papieriaus g. 30 and Bubilo str. 1 - two modern areas each, adapted for walking dogs of different weights (up to 10 kg and more than 10 kg). All sites are planned to be opened to visitors by the beginning of August.
"We enclose each new design site with a segmental fence with gates, install benches, and take care of garbage cans. To keep four-legged friends from getting bored, we build booms and climbing obstacles in the playgrounds. This year, it is planned to install several more such new sites in Vilnius", says Gintautas Runovičius, head of the Urban Management and Environmental Protection Department of the Vilnius City Municipality.
Several pets from the Vilnius animal shelter administered by "Grinda" also tried out the new playgrounds.
"It is pleasing how thoughtfully planned these sites are - even our wards, who previously lived on the street, quickly felt how fun it is to explore a new environment, go through the tunnels or overcome the boom." It is obvious that such equipment promotes more active physical activity in dogs, strengthens the muscles, and develops the vestibular apparatus. All this contributes to a better physical and social condition of four-legged animals and helps responsible owners to ensure the well-being of their pets", says Agnė Žėbienė, head of the Vilnius animal care home.
Currently, there are 31 petting zoos in the city of Vilnius.
