In Vilnius Lazdynai School, the outdoor sports area will be renovated and a new multifunctional sports center will be installed with running tracks, football fields, a universal basketball, volleyball and square court and spectator stands.
"Over the past three years, we have renovated school fields in dozens of stadiums, but this is the first one where the area will be fundamentally redesigned and adapted to changing needs. This way of managing the playgrounds requires the preparation of a project, so it is more time-consuming than a simple repair, but at the same time it allows better use of the available spaces and creates the greatest benefit for the school," says the Vice Mayor of Vilnius. Valdas Benkunskas.
During the reconstruction of the school's sports field, it is planned to install two football fields with an artificial grass cover for teams to play in the 7×7 format. The stadium will also be equipped with infrastructure for reserve players - at least 14-seater benches with a rain cover. The 100 m long sprint track will be renovated, a new area will be built for long jumps, where a running track is also planned. Ball traps and stands for up to 180 spectators will be installed.
There will also be a universal sports field suitable for playing basketball, volleyball and square, a fence with ball traps. New engineering rain and lighting networks will be installed under the roofs, and a new video surveillance system will be built to ensure safety.
"Vilnius Development Company", which manages the project, is currently conducting a tender for renovation of the field, the winners of which will have to prepare a Work Project. It is planned that the contracting works could start in the fall. The contractors will have to carry out the work in such a way that the educational process in the school building is not interrupted.
"After modernizing the sports field of Lazdynai school, children will be able to do physical education lessons in a modern, modern and motivating environment for sports. After school, the residents of Lazdynai and other surrounding districts will be able to use this sports space," Karolis Valickas, Head of Sports Projects of "Vilniaus vystymos kompanijos", names the benefits of renovating the field.
The multifunctional sports center will be handed over to the sports infrastructure development and maintenance institution for operation.Active Vilnius".
The competition for the renovation of the Žirmūnai gymnasium sports field will be announced soon. Here, it is planned to expand the boundaries of the existing stadium field, to install artificial grass and special surfaces for football, basketball, gymnastics, athletics and beach volleyball activities.
In the last two years, a total of 23 stadiums near schools have been renovated in Vilnius. Vilnius will end this season with 34 high-quality pitches.
