As the climate changes, meteorological cataclysms are inevitable - heat waves, more frequent rains. We can feel it at the end of this summer as well. Sustainable management of our environment and preserved ecosystems help mitigate these impacts. On a hot day, the temperature difference between a short lawn and a meadow can reach up to 20℃. A short lawn cannot withstand the heat and burns. Black soil absorbs and radiates a similar amount of heat as asphalt. In our climate zone, meadows do not burn, even during hot weather, and do not emit as much heat as bare, burnt land.
The images of the city of Vilnius taken by a drone with a thermal imaging camera show an obvious temperature difference between hard surfaces, short lawns and meadows. How you feel walking down the sidewalk
by the hot asphalt, scorched earth and by the meadow?
