This year Vilnius city municipality near the "CUP" shopping center presented an innovation - an edible flower garden. The municipality confirmed to the MadeinVilnius.lt portal that anyone who wants to can take vegetables from it, and in the future it will be considered to install such gardens in various parts of the city.
Marigolds, mint, nasturtiums, Swiss chard, kale, pumpkins and even tomatoes grow in the edible flower garden on Šnipiškių street. Such gardens are extremely popular in Scandinavia and Western Europe, and all city residents will be able to eat the harvest.
"The vegetable garden at the CUP shopping center is open to all residents, everyone will be able to use its goods, for now we ask you to be patient and wait for the plants to ripen their fruits. We can see that this initiative has worked, so in the future it may be considered to install such gardens in other parts of the city as well", he commented. Vilnius city municipalities Media relations specialist Gabrielius Grubinskas.
Residents should not doubt the quality of the harvest - the garden is located in a place where cars do not drive. Šnipiškių Street is only for pedestrians, so the crops grown here should not be different from those grown by the townspeople on their balconies.
Already now, residents can come and admire the first edible flower garden in Vilnius. It is maintained and watered daily by gardeners.
