"When I found out about the innovation being implemented by the Vilnius municipality - creating a Facebook account for each ward - I was very happy. This is a welcome and necessary step forward. User habits are changing, the new internet generation is also growing, the need to innovatively and efficiently solve the problems and issues of municipal residents is also growing. Social network accounts will help not only in solving problems, but also in developing community, sharing innovations and important information. I believe that this will promote the citizenship of the residents of the old townships, open up new opportunities to share and be heard", said social media expert Rytis Čekauskas about the innovation.
According to R. Čekauskas, in the long run this step of the municipality will help not only in everyday life, but will also increase people's trust in the institutions, which will allow them to do more. The expert wishes the employees of the municipalities patience and strength - the work is not easy.
The boroughs of the capital want to communicate with their residents directly, informally, to share the latest information that will reach them quickly and without leaving their computer or phone.
The Šnipiškii borough team has been actively communicating on social networks for some time: "On our Facebook account, we publish not only information about events, detailed plans, etc. questions, but also more interesting material. We also publish many historical photographs from the National Museum and the State Archives. This is of great interest to the residents of Šnipiškii, because you can see how their hometowns are changing unrecognizably, which is also extremely interesting for the emigrated residents of Šnipiškii - some of them are interested in current events even while living in Hawaii!", Šnipiškii elder Jonas Šerėnas told about his experience communicating with residents virtually.
The elder also noticed that thanks to social networks, the most important and relevant information reaches the residents much faster, people discuss in virtual space, so when they meet live, decisions are made faster and more smoothly - this is another benefit of social networks in solving issues relevant to the municipality.
Elderships are often the very first channel to turn to when planning work to improve the living environment, after noticing a problem to be solved. Vilnius residents are invited to write directly to the elders and from now on contact them conveniently and quickly on their Facebook account.
