In commemoration of the World Energy Day, Marius Kairys, the commercial manager of the Lithuanian energy company "Energijos ljuskus centras", told about the lamps that are used to illuminate the country's streets.
"Over 200 lights are lit every night in Lithuania. light fixtures. We have everything from very old and inefficient mercury lamps to modern LED lamps that shine in white. The color of the lights is different, as the old sodium lights are yellow and shine in all directions, making cities more visible from space. LED lamps are efficient in that they concentrate all the light and energy to produce light where it is needed, that is, on the street and sidewalk," says M. Kairys about the differences.
According to the interviewee, due to the efficiency of LED lights, most of the country's pedestrian crossings are lit by these lights. In this way, the crossings stand out more from the general lighting flow and the visibility of pedestrians is better.
It is encouraging that municipalities are gradually replacing old lights with LEDs.
"This is a relatively cheap technology at the moment, and we already have a model city in Lithuania - Lazdijus, where the entire municipality is modernized with LED lights, a management system is installed, and our specialists have calculated that the municipality saves about 75%. electricity for street lighting. There are also financial models for municipalities and businesses, where lighting can be modernized according to the ESCO model without investing a single euro," says M. Kairys.
