Every day, workers who clean streets, yards, alleys and other places in cities find something in the dense grass. Bank cards, documents, wallets or keys are found quite often, but sometimes there are also valuable or particularly expensive items.
The greatest joy for those who find them is the happy ending of the story, when they manage to return the lost item to its owner.
Unfortunately, most of the time lawnmowers find trash left by messy people: empty bottles, food packages, and the like, but there are also some interesting finds.
Ruslanas Veličko, manager of the waste and environmental management company "Ekonovus", says that he recently found an expensive phone in the tall grass.
"I was teaching a colleague how to use a lawn mower and suddenly I noticed something shiny in the grass. I come, I look - a smartphone. And not just any, but one of Samsung's latest models. I don't need other people's things, so I started looking for the owner of the phone", says R. Veličko.
The man found a valuable find in the Šeškinės micro-district of Vilnius, so he decided to find a group of Šeškinės residents on social networks and published a photo of the phone in it. The very next day, Ruslan received several messages from interested people.
"The phone was dead, so I charged it at home. I thought I might be able to contact someone from my contacts, but the device was locked with a password. He helped me identify the real owner from all the respondents. I returned the phone to the guy who entered the code correctly. He thanked me a lot, he wanted to repay me with money, but I didn't take anything, just his thanks was enough for me," Ruslanas tells the story that ended happily.
He also remembers another strange find in the grass. One of his colleagues in Vilnius had found narcotic substances packed in small bags in the grass some time ago. The woman immediately contacted the police, and when the officers arrived, they took the bags.
Viačeslavs Kutko, another manager who works at the company "Ekonovus" and is responsible for the management of New Town and Old Town, says that workers cutting the grass have found many wallets with all documents, state car numbers.
"The most memorable find was a gold chain. As it turned out later, it belonged to a little girl. She was playing with the kids and lost the cross chain, and her dad approached our staff and was very thankful that we found it and returned it. I can imagine how happy she was to get her jewel back," says V. Kutko.
Specialists of the company "Ekonovus" remind that it is important not to throw waste anywhere, but to sort it and throw it in containers. Blue marked containers are for paper and cardboard waste, yellow for plastic and packaging, and green for glass waste.
