As the Ethics and Procedures Commission of the Seimas became concerned about the messy and unaesthetic environment of the Seimas, the Seimas Board intends to once again appeal to Vilnius City Mayor Remigijões Šimašių, asking him to clean up this territory belonging to the municipality.
This was told to Elta on Friday by the "peasant" Deputy Speaker of the Seimas, Arvydas Nekrošius.
"I will raise this issue at the meeting of the Seimas board, I will propose to contact the mayor of Vilnius once again. Since Vilnius is run by conservatives and liberals, we will also ask fellow conservatives who head the Ethics and Procedures Commission to mediate and contribute to fixing that environment," said A. Nekrošius.
Commenting on the situation, the vice-chairman of the Seimas, a "citizen" A. Nekrošius, said that the biggest problem is that the territory around the Seimas does not belong to the Seimas, but belongs to the Vilnius city municipality. According to him, the board of the Seimas repeatedly appealed to the mayor of Vilnius, R. Šimašių, to other former mayors, it was discussed that they should start managing those territories.
"As far as I know, the plot has already been formed. I agree that the environment is neither beautiful nor presentable, many foreign delegations come here and see that. I think so Vilnius city municipality could contribute to the idea put forward by the Ethics and Procedures Commission to clean up the environment. We would like that area to be maintained, to restore the city fountain, to make it more than just a lawn, to restore the original state of the fountain. In the end, if there was an opportunity, he would hand over that entire territory to the Seimas for management, because it can be seen that the city of Vilnius is not managing itself very well. So maybe Seimas will fix that territory himself?", A. Nekrošius thought.
He does not have much hope that he will be able to do it before the 30th anniversary of Independence, which will be held in the spring of next year.
"Since the winter period will soon be here, I think it will probably not be possible because it requires additional funding. If the budget were approved from January 1, it would theoretically not be possible to fix it", A. Nekrošius thought.
In his opinion, the Seimas cannot invest funds in the improvement of a foreign territory, because it would seem scandalous. "Since this is not our territory, we cannot really invest money in some foreign territory. I think it would be an even bigger scandal if we invested our money in another area. It would look very strange," the Deputy Speaker of the Seimas thinks.
Deputy Speaker of the Seimas, A. Nekrošius, who is responsible for the work of the Seimas office, said that he asked the responsible employees of the office to analyze the situation and organize a small area under the jurisdiction of the Seimas.
The concern of the Ethics and Procedures Commission of the Seimas regarding the messy and unaesthetic environment of the Seimas has also moved to the hall of plenary sessions of the Seimas.
After Antanas Matulis, chairman of the Seimas Ethics and Procedures Commission, presented the position of ethics watchdogs on Thursday regarding, in their opinion, the inappropriately managed environment of the Seimas Chamber and the dormitory, The Seimas a stormy discussion on this issue has erupted, reminds ELTA.
Ethics watchdogs addressed the Speaker of the Seimas Viktoras Pranckietis, the Board of the Seimas, the Mayor of the City of Vilnius R. Šimašias regarding the disorderly environment of the Seimas and the Seimas dormitory, they also addressed a copy of the appeal to Prime Minister Saulis Skvernelis. Ethics watchdogs ask them to urgently take measures to properly organize the environment of the Seimas Palace and the Seimas dormitory.
In the opinion of the members of the commission, "the environment of the Seimas Chamber and the Seimas dormitory is neglected and neglected, it creates a negative opinion about the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania and the state of Lithuania itself." In the opinion of the Ethics and Procedures Commission of the Seimas, such an environment is also unsafe for people, especially those with disabilities.
Ethics watchdogs raised this issue also due to the fact that many high-ranking foreign and Lithuanian officials visit the Seimas, and official state meetings are held in the Independence Square near the Seimas. events.
Before making the decision, the members of the Seimas Ethics and Procedures Commission reviewed photos testifying to messy flower beds, withered plants, potholed road surfaces, rusted gates, and erased dates on the triangle representing the state's history.
