Mantas Bartuška, CEO of Lietuvos Geležinkėliau, says that the project is gradually gaining momentum and is now moving to the next stage - concretization of solutions.
"For this, we want to use the best specialists in architecture and urbanism, who would propose the idea of a modern mobility center that meets our modern needs - harmonious mobility and comfortable spaces for leisure and work", said M. Bartuška in the announcement.
"Lietuvos geležinkeliai" informed BNS that 69,6 thousand was signed with "Civitta". EUR (excluding VAT) value contract.
The architecture competition is planned to be held at the beginning of 2021, and its winners will be announced in the middle of the year.
"Lietuvos geležinkeliai" plans to upgrade in one of the stages Vilnius railway station building and build a new structure above the tracks - a connection between Naujininkai and Naujamiestis with Old Town.
In the summer of 2018, "Lietuvos geležinkeliai" signed a memorandum of intent with the Vilnius municipality, according to which it is planned to modernize the Vilnius of the station territory: connect railway and bus the station, move the headquarters of Lietuvos geležinkėliau, as well as develop commercial facilities.
The currently prepared detailed plan of the area of about 33,5 hectares between Paneriai, Geležinkelios, Stotias and Seinė streets will decide how to modernize both stations, foresee possibilities for construction and use of the area, evaluate changes in communication and infrastructure.
The vision of the station area was created last year at the "Vilnius connect" architecture workshop. Development concepts are prepared on the basis of their results and taking into account the recommendations of experts.
Modernization works are planned in the area between Geležinkelis and Pelesas streets, which is managed by "Lietuvos geležinkeliai" in trust.
