In order to promote tourism and business development in Vilnius district, a draft decision on a new public institution was presented at the council meeting held on May 9 – Vilnius district establishment of a municipal tourism and business information center.
According to Roberts Duchnevičius, Mayor of Vilnius District Municipality, the Vilnius District currently lacks an integrated center that would centralize and effectively coordinate business and tourism development activities.
"The need for such an institution is obvious. We are one of the few municipalities that does not yet have such a center, and currently the structures performing these functions operate in a fragmented manner, which reduces the efficiency of operations. The newly established institution could not only present the potential of the Vilnius district, but also conduct the necessary analyses, market research, and provide recommendations for decision-making. This would help create a more favorable environment for both business development and tourism development," says Mayor R. Duchnevič.
The purpose of establishing the center is to strengthen the tourist and economic potential of the Vilnius district, increase the awareness of the area in Lithuania and abroad, and create an attractive environment for investments and business. It is expected that the newly established institution will publicly provide services in the fields of tourism, business and marketing - promote local and inbound tourism, publicize the district's attractions, organize tourism routes and events, consult business representatives, conduct market research and analysis. It will also aim to improve the conditions for business and tourism development, develop a business microclimate, promote entrepreneurship and actively represent the Vilnius district nationally and internationally.
In April and May 2024, meetings were organized by the mayor together with the municipal administration with associated business organizations, representatives of small and medium-sized businesses, and farmers. During the meetings, the need to establish an information center where it would be possible to receive consultations on business issues, use information sources, and receive assistance in developing activities was repeatedly expressed.
It is planned that the institution will be established in the Pikeliškės Manor, Riešė Eldership.
This project will still be discussed in the Vilnius District Municipality's Legal Order and Local Government Development and Economic and Finance Committees, and the final decision will be made at the next council meeting.
