For several years, the merchants of the Rudamina market cannot return to their usual trading place. The reason is simple - renovation work is going on there. According to the original project, they were supposed to end this year. However, the opening had to be postponed.
The renovation of the market was suspended for a year. No work could be carried out from 2022 onwards. March until 2023 March. The reason for this: stormwater pipes.
"When starting the construction of the market square and preparing the work project, the amounts of surface rainwater were specified, which according to the existing technical project solutions were too large. A solution was found and a separate project for the drainage of the rainwater pipeline to the stream was carried out. The new sewage pipeline will be laid through private plots where easements had to be created. According to the sewage pipeline solutions, it turned out that the market square rain collection pipeline and wells go below and obstruct the channels of the old heat lines. They must be dismantled. When the dismantling and excavation began, in the southern part of the square and in some areas, accumulations of black soil and old landfill were found, which do not have sufficient strength. Without all these solutions and works, it is not possible to carry out the direct construction of the market square", says Kęstutis Butvydas, Vilnius district advisor to the mayor.
Basically, it is planned to change the infrastructure of the market, which should become more convenient not only for traders, but also for buyers coming to the market. Concrete paving will appear here, and new footpaths will be installed. In this way, it is planned to better fence the territory of the market. The project envisages the installation of a new high fence with a lockable gate.
"In the square and its approaches, it is planned to install small architectural elements that make the environment much more comfortable and safer - lamps, benches, bicycle racks, trash cans, drinking water dispensers, video surveillance systems, etc.," comments the mayor's advisor.
Street infrastructure will also change. Entrances and exits from the marketplace will be paved. It will also be equipped parking lots for cars, trucks and minibuses. It is planned that the parking lot will accommodate 150 cars.
"The renewal and widening of the road surface and the installation of sidewalks will reduce it Air pollution (dustiness, noise), increased traffic safety, restricted parking in prohibited areas. Road signs regulating traffic in the territory will also be installed", - adds K. Butvydas.
The Rudamina market stands out from the others in that you can find a wide variety of products here. In order to facilitate the infrastructure of the market, it will be divided into several functional trade zones according to the nature of trade and the area required for trade. A total of 238 trading places should appear in the market.
Currently, it is planned that the renovation works of the market will end by 2024. July 1st.
