Illegal landfill site referred to court in Vilnius district case, according to law enforcement, the organizer of this activity caused damage to nature exceeding 100 million euros.
As the Prosecutor General's Office reported on Thursday, charges of illegal economic and commercial activity and extraction of land resources, violations of environmental protection laws that caused significant damage to the environment, theft and document forgery have been brought against Darjušas Zareckis, born in 1981 and living in Vilnius.
This criminal case has been transferred to the Vilnius Regional District Court for consideration.
According to the pre-trial investigation, D. Zareckis, as the director of two companies, illegally engaged in the collection, transportation, storage and processing of construction and demolition waste.
It is suspected that he engaged in this business in violation of the Waste Management Rules, without registering the companies in the State Register of Waste Managers, and without having a pollution permit or hazardous waste management license.
According to the prosecutor's office, the investigation data reasonably suggests that by violating the provisions of legal acts regulating waste management, D. Zareckis caused significant damage to the forest, the surface of the earth and its deeper layers - the person dumped about 400 tons of hazardous waste, which contained asbestos slate and zinc, on land plots.
According to the conclusion provided by the specialists, the damage caused by the defendant to nature exceeds 100 million euros, and the value of the restoration work on the contaminated state forest territory may reach almost 900 thousand euros.
D. Zareckis, who has been convicted of other criminal offenses several times in the past, faces a fine, arrest, or imprisonment for up to 6 years.
