While Vilnius boasts about the ever-increasing number of kilometers of renovated streets and, it seems, Vilnius residents have stopped complaining about potholed roads, in the meantime Vilnius district Residents have begun to express their grievances. The residents of Nemenčinė are dissatisfied with their central street, and the hands of the Vilnius district municipality are tied. Although they offer financial support, the start of repairs does not depend on them.
Residents are outraged that the central street of the town is in really poor condition. The potholes only damage cars and general safety on the road. In addition, you can often see military equipment driving on this road, which also contributes to the deterioration of the street's condition. However, there is no sign of repairs here yet.
"We note that the regional road of state significance No. 5216, the access road to Nemenčinė from the Vilnius–Švenčionys–Zarasai road, which coincides with Švenčionyų g., Nemenčinės mst. belongs to AB "Via Lietuva" and they, as the road manager, organize the maintenance and repair work of this road. Vilnius District Municipality "constantly asks the road manager, the Ministry of Transport and Communications and the Ministry of National Defence to pay attention and allocate funding for the repair work of the aforementioned road No. 5216 and road No. 108 through the city of Nemenčinė," comments Kęstutis Butvydas, advisor to the mayor of Vilnius District Municipality.
Although the latter are trying to cooperate with state institutions in good faith and solve the problems of poor-quality streets not only in Nemenčinė, but also in other parts of the district, Švenčionyų Street is not yet at the top of the priority list. Even the decision adopted by the Vilnius District Municipality Council in 2024 on a financial contribution to street repair work does not save the situation.
"The repair (reconstruction) of district roads with asphalt surface is planned according to the priority queue "Priority queue of sections of district roads to be reconstructed and repaired". In the aforementioned queue, the section of road No. 5216 from 2,503 to 2,703 km is in 162nd place, and the section from 1,203 to 2,503 km is in 724th place", - lists "Via Lietuva".
"Via Lietuva"'s answer is short and clear - the repair of Nemenčinė Central Street will be carried out when its turn comes in the priority table. The reconstruction will also be carried out taking into account the allocated funds. Here is the good news - the municipality is ready to contribute financially and at least in this way accelerate the repair of the street. When this will happen - it is unclear, and will depend on the progress of the reconstruction of other roads in Lithuania.
