In Vilnius, the completion of large projects is often delayed, and the residents seem to have gotten used to it. Meanwhile, residents of Rudamina have been waiting for the reconstruction of the market for several years. Although it was previously planned to open in 2023, due to unexpected circumstances, the completion of the renovation will have to wait until next year.
"The reconstruction of the Rudamina market place is one of the most important Vilnius district municipal works, in terms of infrastructure management, small and medium business development in this district. Unfortunately, we encountered unplanned problems from the side of the contractor performing the construction work, the work stopped. Currently, the purchase of remaining works is underway", says Kęstutis Butvydas, advisor to the mayor of the Vilnius district.
Currently, it is planned that the reconstruction of the market will be completed in the summer of 2025.
Basically, it is planned to change the infrastructure of the market, which should become more convenient not only for traders, but also for buyers coming to the market. Concrete paving will be installed here, and new footpaths will be installed. It is also planned to fence off the market area. The project envisages the installation of a new high fence with a lockable gate.
Street infrastructure will also change. Entrances and exits from the marketplace will be paved. It will also be equipped parking lots for cars, trucks and minibuses. It is planned that the parking lot will accommodate 150 cars.
The Rudamina market stands out from the others in that you can find a wide variety of products here. In order to facilitate the infrastructure of the market, it will be divided into several functional trade zones according to the nature of trade and the area required for trade. It is planned to install 238 trading places in the market place.
