Trakai District Municipality consistently implements the principles of the Green Deal and promotes the development of sustainable energy. In 2023–2024, important energy projects were implemented in the district, which help reduce costs, use energy resources more efficiently, and contribute to environmental protection.
Last year, the municipality successfully completed the lighting system modernization projects in Trakai and Lentvaris, ensuring that more and more streets will be illuminated with modern and efficient lighting. It also acquired part of a solar park and the entire solar park, with a total capacity of 1,565 MWh.
As Andrius Šatevičius, Mayor of Trakai District Municipality, notes, these changes allow not only to significantly save electricity, but also to increase the municipality's energy independence.
"We are pleased that the Trakai district is becoming increasingly greener and more energy-efficient. Our goal is not only to promote environmentally friendly solutions and reduce electricity costs, but also to create a more comfortable and safer environment for our residents. Every year we can allocate more funds for new street lighting, because modernized systems allow us to save energy, and the electricity produced by solar parks helps to offset consumption," says A. Šatevičius.
The municipality will continue its commitments towards the green course - to modernize lighting systems, invest in renewable energy and ensure sustainable development of the district. In the near future, it is planned to evaluate additional opportunities to use renewable energy resources even more efficiently and reduce the district's electricity costs.
