The Freedom Party announced its candidate for mayor of Vilnius - MP Tomas Vytautas Raskevičius became him.
The member of the Seimas also elected Donaldas Meiželytė, the deputy director of the administration of the capital city, IT specialist, activist Nerijas Vitkauskas, and earlier, Vincas Jurgutis, the vice-minister of economy and innovation, withdrew from the elections. The politician expressed his support for TV Raskevičius.
On Thursday, the outgoing mayor of the capital also supported the party Remigius Šimašius. Although he did not spare good words for other applicants, according to the mayor, TV Raskevičius is the most team-oriented and bravest person in Lithuanian politics. According to R. Šimašius, a member of the Seimas "will understand Vilnius not only with his mind, not even only with his heart, but he will be permeated with the city to the bone".
"I would very much like my candidacy to become a symbol - that Vilnius is a free city," said TV Raskevičius.
The candidate was elected online this week by party members and supporters.
ELTA reminds that Artūras Zuokas, the former head of the capital, was the first to announce his intention to seek the post of mayor of Vilnius. At that time, the Fatherland Union-Lithuanian Christian Democrats (TS-LKD) nominated the current Vice Mayor Valdas Benkunskas, the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party (LSDP) - Seimas member Rasa Budbergytė, the Lithuanian Peasants and Greens Union (LVŽS) - MEP Stasios Jakeliūnas, the Democratic Union "For Lithuania" - factions The Seimas the candidacy of Elder Lukas Savicks, National Union - Vytautas Sinicas.
