The Council of the Labor Party on Sunday approved the list of candidates for mayors in the upcoming municipal elections, among them are four current MPs.
Seimas member Ieva Kačinskaitė-Urbonienė will seek to become the mayor of the city of Vilnius, even though this week the chairman of the Labor Party Andrius Mazuronis promised to propose the former leader of the party, MEP Viktoris Uspaskich, to become a "Labor" candidate for the post of mayor.
Other candidates for the mayors of other cities: MP Viktoras Fiodorovs of Kėdainiai district, Seimas member Valentinas Bukauskas of Telšiai district, and MP Vaida Giraitytė-Juškevičienė of Marijampolė city, the party announced.
According to Andrias Mazuronis, the leader of the "workers", in order to win, it is extremely important to trust yourself and your comrades, believe in your strengths, not be afraid to admit your strengths and weaknesses, and have clear goals and ideas.
"I understand how difficult it was to make a decision, you will become ambassadors of our party in your municipalities, communities, and regions, and this is very important. The political leadership that you agree to take on is extremely difficult, but also very inspiring, not only for you, but for the people around you," A. Mazuronis told his comrades, as quoted in the press release.
"We need that inspiration today so that we feel like one family in the community, help each other, walk shoulder to shoulder, which is especially important during the elections," he added.
The Labor Party is nominating candidates in 33 municipalities of the country so far. Candidates in eight more municipalities will be approved by December.
Elections of municipal councils and mayors will be held in the spring of 2023.
