Spain is implementing significant changes to road traffic regulations from 2025, aimed at improving road safety and reducing the number of accidents.
One of the most important innovations is a stricter limit on the concentration of alcohol in the blood of drivers, reduced to 0,20 per mille. This decision is extremely relevant for drivers, as even a small amount of alcohol can lead to a fine.
Significant changes are also expected during bad weather conditions. From now on, overtaking in the left lane will be prohibited in case of snow or ice, thus ensuring the smooth movement of emergency services.
Another innovation is the requirement to form a so-called emergency corridor during traffic jams, leaving a clear path for ambulances.
Motorcyclists will have the right to ride on the right side of the road at speeds of up to 30 km/h when traffic is stopped, but strict clothing requirements will come into effect: a certified helmet, gloves, and appropriate footwear are required.
Stricter rules will also apply to users of electric scooters: helmets are required, riding on sidewalks is prohibited, and registration requirements may also apply.
In addition, road signs are being updated - they will become clearer, more universal, and more in line with the needs of modern transport.
Spanish authorities hope that these new rules will help reduce accidents and improve the overall traffic culture in the country.
