A speeding dog caught on radar in central Switzerland last month has turned out to be a duck, and is likely a repeat offender, local authorities said.
The town of Konig, near the capital Bern police was surprised when, while checking radar images on April 13, he saw that a mallard duck was among the people caught speeding, the municipality announced on Facebook over the weekend.
The deer was caught speeding at 52 kilometers per hour in a 30-kilometer speed limit zone, the report said.
The incident, reported by the Berner Zeitung newspaper on Monday, became even stranger when it emerged that a similar-looking duck had been captured flying in the same spot at exactly the same speed on exactly the same day seven years ago, according to a post on Facebook.
The municipality said it was considering whether the whole thing was a belated April Fool's joke or a "fake" image. However, the police inspectorate said it was impossible to fake the images or manipulate the radar system. The computers are calibrated and tested annually by the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS), and the images taken are sealed, the municipality explained.
