Haribo gummies recalled in Netherlands after cannabis found in them
German candy maker Haribo withdrew one of its gummies from sale in the Netherlands on Thursday after it was found to contain cannabis, with several people, including children, reporting illnesses.
The Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) said that only three packs of Happy Cola F!ZZ gummies were affected, but as a precaution, all of the candy was withdrawn from sale.
"There are packages of sweets in circulation that can cause health problems, such as dizziness, when consumed," the NVWA said in a statement.
NVWA spokeswoman Saida Ahjad told AFP that cannabis was found in the sweets.
"Police "This was reported by the NVWA after several people, children and adults, became ill after eating cola bottles," she said, referring to the cola bottle-shaped gummies.
AFP has contacted Haribo for comment.
Ahyad said police were currently investigating how the cannabis could have ended up in the sweets.
"After consulting the NVWA and as is customary in such cases, Haribo has issued a safety warning," an NVWA spokeswoman said.
