What should the school have - a sports field, tennis courts, a collaborative space for adults, or maybe a swimming pool for the residents of the district? Residents of Vilnius will be invited to create a school or kindergarten near their homes, to present ideas and proposals in creative workshops, which can be transferred to the design tasks of educational institutions.
The community of Pavilni was the first to test the innovation applied by "Vilnius Development Company" to include people's suggestions even before the start of the design competition. Vilnius municipality plans to build a new high school in Pavilny, Lozoraičio st. 95, which will be attended by more than 800 children. "Vilnius Development Company", as the developer of the project, invited Pavilnia residents to submit their ideas for the school project.
"Young families are willingly forming in Pavilni, so it is natural that a new school is badly needed in this district. And what kind of school building and outdoor spaces are needed in this particular place, no one can tell better than the community, that is, the main host of the school. That's why we invited the citizens of Pavilna to share their ideas on what tasks we should set for the architects designing the school," said Deputy Mayor of Vilnius Tomas Gulbinas, who participated in the community's creative workshop.
Pavilnis community members submitted their ideas according to several categories defining the school's identity, environment, distribution of premises and access to the school.
"Don't limit your imagination and don't touch the past - the schools of the future are being created today, let your suggestions be something we haven't thought of, because this school will be just for you and your children." We believe in the vision that the school can become the axis of community life and everyday life," said Saulius Barauskas, head of Vilnius Development Company.
Residents' ideas are accepted before the tender conditions for the architectural project idea are drawn up, so once they are evaluated, they can be transferred to the building and environment design task. It is planned that the school could be built in 2026.
"Vilnius Development Company" will announce three architectural project tenders this year - for two kindergartens in Šnipiškės and Balsiai, as well as a pro-gymnasium in Perkūnkiem. Residents will be invited to creative workshops for educational institutions designed in their neighborhood.
Last December, Vilnius Development Company announced three tenders for two kindergartens and a school. Proposals are currently being evaluated.
