The principled attitude of Lithuania to support Belarusian civil society does not change. It is proposed to provide financial support not only for bachelor's studies, but also for Belarusians who have chosen master's studies at the universities of our country.
"Supporting Belarusian youth in a difficult situation is the duty of good neighbors. By giving support, we express our solidarity with the democratic movement of Belarus, and we also create opportunities to study for those young people who currently have difficulties in obtaining higher education in their country", says the Minister of Education, Science and Sports Jurgita Šiugždinienė.
The minister appealed to the International Studies Commission that when setting the quotas in 2021 for the studies of citizens of foreign countries under master's study programs, Belarus would be provided as a separate priority country, allocating 20 additional places for the studies of its citizens. Since the 2020 academic year, the Ministry has provided support to 103 Belarusians enrolled in bachelor's studies in Lithuania.
Lithuania since 2015 also supports the studies of Ukrainian youth in our country. This year, a quota of 30 places will be allocated for postgraduate studies of Ukrainian citizens in Lithuanian higher education institutions.
Lithuania from 2019 also provides support to persons arriving from the war zone of Ukraine's Luhansk and Donetsk regions. The above-mentioned persons, who have completed the secondary education program at the Lithuanian House of Vilnius and have been accepted to study at public higher education institutions not financed by the state through general admission, may be granted support to cover the cost of the first cycle and integrated studies. high school results.
The International Studies Commission includes representatives of the Education Exchange Support Fund (ŠMPF), the Lithuanian Science Council, the Conference of Rectors of Lithuanian Universities, the Conference of Directors of Lithuanian Colleges, the Study Quality Assessment Center, student organizations, and the activities of the commission are coordinated by the ŠMPF.
