For the thousand young residents of Pilaitė, a particularly important project - the building of the Tolminkiemi Gymnasium - is finally visible not only in the drawings. Today, at the construction site, Tolminkiemio st. After digging the symbolic capsule in 2D, the walls begin to rise - until 2022. September 1, the opening of the new Vilnius school, is just over 14 months away.
"The Tolminkiemi high school is the most important for the young community of Pilaitė, which made titanic efforts to make the project happen. At the same time, it will be an example of what the school of the future should look like," said the mayor of Vilnius Remigius Šimašius.
The Minister of Education, Science and Sports Jurgita Šiugždinienė wished the future school that the building, which is exceptional in its design solutions, would also be exceptional in terms of educational content.
"I am also happy that this is a good example of cooperation between the municipality and the community, which I wish for all similar projects," said J. Šiugždinienė. - Because the more active the community, the stronger the school - we saw that during the pandemic. Therefore, I wish everyone to get involved, participate in creating the future, an open school where critical-thinking, civic-minded, happy children who are not afraid of the future will grow."
The Tolminkiemi high school in the Pilaitė microdistrict was designed by the well-known Vilnius architectural studio "DO architects", which won the architectural competition last year - the planning of educational institutions through competitions, preparing unique and not typical projects, according to R. Šimašiaus, will be the standard in Vilnius from now on.
The new school will have four floors, its area is 12 square meters. m, the premises will be distinguished by their spatial structure: the core of the hall, gymnasium and gym will be surrounded by a ring of classrooms. Inside the ring, the sports and events hall will form the "heart" of the building, a central square where the school community can meet, socialize, eat and work. Residents of Pilaitė ward, who are waiting for Tolminkiemi gymnasium as a community gathering place, will be able to participate in various activities after school - from sports to classes in laboratories.
The company "Jungtiniai Projektai", which won the tender for the construction of the gymnasium, undertook to build the school for 16 million. 967 thousand EUR with VAT.
"We use BIM (Building Information Modeling) to ensure a smooth and fast construction process of a modern school." Our experience shows that this innovation ensures a smooth construction process, as errors are eliminated at the design stage. We have the ability to more accurately plan the need for materials, processes, follow the work schedule - simply complete them on the scheduled terms. Using advanced construction technologies, the main building structures with all engineering connections will be manufactured in the factory in the shortest possible time," said Mindaugas Devėnas, director of UAB "Jungtiniai Projektai".
In recent years, several new schools have emerged in Vilnius. Gabija pro-gymnasium in Pašilaičiai and Balsiai pro-gymnasium, an extension of "Vilnies" school in Pavilny, were opened last year, currently the Joachim Lelevelis engineering gymnasium is being built Žirmūnai extension.
But in the near future, the growing Vilnius is waiting for the construction of seven more schools - so that all children can study where they live, and for that there is no need to divide the streams into two shifts. The financial contribution of the Government will be necessary to meet this need.
