Vilnius University The Senate decided that until the end of the spring semester the studies Vilnius University (VU) will be held remotely only.
This was confirmed to BNS on Tuesday by the rector of the university, Professor Rimvydas Petrauskas.
"Both staff and students wanted clarity about the future course of this semester. As far as we monitor the situation and forecasts, as you know, the semester at Vilnius University ends at the end of May, so there is no certainty that that semester could be renewed. Therefore, a decision was made in the Senate to continue studies remotely," R. Petrauskas told BNS on Tuesday.
According to the VU rector, such a decision will not only bring clarity to teachers and students, but will also give them more time to prepare to continue the rest of the academic year remotely.
"Clear rules are drawn up going forward. Students can adapt their lives to this, for example, non-Vilnius residents can look at where it is more convenient for them to live, whether to return home or continue renting in the capital," said R. Petrauskas.
According to the rector of VU, students who are currently writing bachelor's or master's theses will be given the opportunity to use the resources of the university library.
"Students completing their bachelor's and master's studies can place orders and have books delivered to them in hand or mailed to them." (…) Since each student has his own guide, he also has a lot of responsibility. In these circumstances, he will have to help the student finish the work and responsibly guarantee that the books are necessary for the student to complete the work", said the professor.
According to R. Petrauskas, it is not yet considered to organize the defense of bachelor's and master's theses remotely, but if it were necessary, there would be no problems.
"The possibility of live defense may still arise. In addition, two theses have already been defended remotely, the dean of the Faculty of History, Loreta Skurvydaite, has also been elected remotely, there should be no problems," VU rector said.
In order to control the spread of the coronavirus in the country, it has been announced since March 16 quarantine. During the quarantine, all cultural, educational and educational institutions do not work, they are banned en masse events.
