Vilnius city municipality On Wednesday, the government will present to the public the changes planned to be introduced in ethnic minority schools related to broader Lithuanian language education.
According to the municipality, starting next school year, it is planned to allocate at least six hours a week to Lithuanian language lessons in primary education.
It is also planned to promote bilingual education in Russian-speaking kindergartens and schools in Vilnius.
According to the municipality, the changes are being initiated after taking into account the data on the VBE results of students in the capital for 2020–2024. The latter show that the average VBE results of students studying in Lithuanian are higher every year than those of national minority schools when taking the Lithuanian language and literature exam.
Similar differences in results are observed in exams in other academic subjects.
