Rector of Mykolas Romeris University Professor Inga Žalėnienė and Police Commissioner General Renatas Požėla signed a cooperation agreement between the university and the Police Department under the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania on strengthening the organization of university studies and joint activities.
The university will closely cooperate with the Police Department in preparing the rules for the admission of students to the MRU Public Security Academy and the programs of subjects taught in the university study programs, internships or internships, as well as taking into account the changes in the legal acts regulating police activities, it will contribute to the adjustment of study content and educational materials.
Representatives of the police department will be even more actively involved in the work of the university's qualification examinations and qualification awarding commissions, the department will also provide the necessary infrastructure and training base for the training of future police officers.
According to the rector of Mykolas Romeris University, professor Inga Žalėnienė, since the restoration of independence, the university has represented a new approach to the police, its mission and responsibilities to the society and the state in protecting and protecting the rights of citizens, fundamental democratic values, since the restoration of independence: "I am glad that the university has business-like and constructive relations has supported the Police Department for many years: teaching internships at the university, students doing internships in institutions subordinate to the Police Department, teachers participating in various working groups that deal with the issues of police officers' competencies and their training. I have no doubt that officers with a high university education only strengthen the statutory police system and contribute significantly to overcoming the challenges of ensuring public safety", said MRU Rector Professor Inga Žalėnienė.
Ramūnas Matonis, head of the Communication Department of the Police Department, said that police ready to accept all students who graduated from the university under this program. "Currently, there is a shortage of officers, so the integration of new colleagues into the police family is very welcome," says R. Matonis.
In 2021, the Ministry of the Interior, in order to ensure the need for the missing specialists, has additionally allocated 70 places for those enrolled in the bachelor's study program "Law and Police Activities" of the Mykolas Romeris University Public Security Academy, which is not funded by the state, and will compensate them for the full cost of their studies.
