Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) will significantly improve the living conditions of students in dormitories - student houses in Vilnius Baltupių micro-district, Didlaukis street. The university will invest 2,5 million EUR for the renovation and modernization of high-quality infrastructure that meets international standards.
Planned sustainable investments
October 20 MRU has signed a loan agreement with UAB "Viešojų investijcių pašelų agentūra" (VIPA), which provides funds and measures for the renovation of the infrastructure of higher education and vocational training. After completing the planned works, students' living conditions will improve, the environment will become more comfortable, more favorable conditions will be created to achieve better academic results, participate in the processes of intercultural integration and self-realization, and contribute to the formation of a healthy and sustainable lifestyle.
By applying the principles of intelligent building management, the energy efficiency of buildings will increase, energy resources will be used more rationally: heating costs will decrease by 10-15 percent, electricity and water consumption by 20 percent.
Many single rooms
The project envisages the redevelopment of living quarters, the installation of more single rooms for students and the modernization of double and triple rooms. New modern communal spaces will also be provided for the residents of the student houses. The total number of places is planned to be increased to 700 after the reconstruction.
Students' study facilities will also be modernized - they are intended to be adapted to the process of distance studies, which is even more relevant in recent times, and to examinations. Taking into account the needs of today's students, modern recreation and entertainment facilities are planned, and access to all living and common areas is planned to be renovated.
The pursuit of sustainability
According to MRU rector prof. Inga Žalėnienė, this large project shows that the university purposefully aims for the development of sustainable activities, therefore "green energy" projects are one of the planned areas of modernization of student houses.
It is also intended to install storage facilities for bicycles, scooters and other environmentally friendly means of transportation. In the near future, MRU student houses located at Didlaukio st. 57 and 86, solar power plants will be installed on the roofs.
In addition, environmentally friendly materials are used for the operation and maintenance of student houses, the community is encouraged to sort waste, and a lot of attention is paid to creating a healthy and attractive environment in the broadest sense.
Mykolas Romeris University is the largest specialized university of social sciences in Lithuania, whose most prominent study and research components are law, public safety and public administration. The university has capable and significant cores of education, economics, humanities, communication, politics, psychology, sociology, and management. About 6300 students and listeners study at the university.
