On Wednesday, the Government approved the proposal of the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports (ŠMSM) to hand over the Lithuanian Children and Youth Center to the Vilnius City Municipality.
After the center is transferred to the municipality, its functions will remain similar: pre-school education, non-formal education of children and adults, employment of children and youth, organization of residents' recreation.
"The services of the Lithuanian Children and Youth Center were used by residents of the city of Vilnius, so it would be more rational for the center to belong to the Vilnius municipality. We hope that children and adults living in the capital will now have even more opportunities to spend their free time meaningfully and according to their needs", says Minister of Education, Science and Sports Algirdas Monkevičius.
They are also transferred to the municipality in New Vilnius existing and now unused workshops of the Vilnius Technology Training Center. The expanding Vilnius Žaliakalnis kindergarten-school will be located in these premises - it is planned to establish 6 groups of 15-20 children each. It is planned to transform the workshop premises into a gym, where athletics, dueling sports, artistic gymnastics and other athletes will train. The New Vilnius branch of the Vilnius Justinas Vienožinskis art school, the New Vilnius music school, and the Waldorf school should also be located here.
As the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports optimizes the activities of subordinate institutions, redundant functions are abandoned, cases of duplication are reduced, administrative costs are reduced, and financial resources are used more rationally.
