Vilnius city municipality will update Žirmūnai The sixty-year-old state kindergarten "Žirniukas" will be renovated. The work will begin in May and will be carried out by UAB "Adeso", which won the public procurement organized by the Vilnius Development Company. During the modernization, the building and its surroundings will be renovated, creating more comfortable and safer conditions for children and teachers.
“Vilnius must be friendly and comfortable for everyone, especially its young residents. This project is another step in creating a high-quality educational environment where children will be able to grow and learn in a safe and cozy environment,” says the Mayor of Vilnius. Valdas Benkunskas.
The kindergarten building, located at Verkių g. 17, was built in 1964 according to a typical project and no longer meets modern energy efficiency and educational standards. During the renovation work, the building's facade will be insulated, windows and doors will be replaced. Internal engineering systems will also be updated, and modern ventilation and heating systems will be installed.
"We are creating conditions in which childhood is enriching, safe and healthy. By renewing the building's facade, windows and engineering systems, a better energy class will be ensured, and by installing modern ventilation systems, a healthier environment for children and teachers. Such solutions contribute to the creation of a more sustainable, high-quality educational environment," added Laura Joffė, head of the Vilnius Development Company, which is developing the project.
The work will also include interior spaces. Inside the building, floors, wall coverings and ceilings will be renovated using durable, easy-to-maintain materials. New plumbing will be installed throughout the kindergarten.
The renovation works of "Žirniukas" will cost - 1,6 million. EUR including VAT. Their completion is planned for the first quarter of 2026. While the modernization of "Žirniukas" is underway, children will attend the recently renovated nursery school "Pušaitė", Bistryčios g. 9A.
