Vilnius University The Communication Influences and Propaganda Research Center has been established at the (VU) Faculty of Communication, the higher education institution announced on Friday.
According to VU, the task of the Research Center for Communication Influences and Propaganda is not only to carry out scientific research, but also to provide expertise and analysis of communication influences and disinformation to decision makers and other interested parties.
"This center arose out of our desire to gather experts - not only to conduct scientific research, but also to prepare applied analytical reviews and provide recommendations to those interested in evaluating hostile actors in the field of communication and their efforts to have an impact in Lithuania," Renata Matkevičienė, dean of the Faculty of Communication, is quoted in the report.
The center will be headed by propaganda expert, journalist and communication researcher Viktor Denisenko.
It will explore not only harmful communication phenomena, but will focus on attention and media literacy.
"The fight against the harmful effects of misinformation and propaganda consists of media literacy and its promotion, strategic communication tools, the role of high-quality media in shaping the public space, and more." These phenomena will also be in the focus of our center's research," said V. Denisenko, head of the center.
