Targeted assistance for graduates, children from socially vulnerable families and other students, provision of schools with computer equipment, strengthening of pedagogues' competences, childcare at school.
This is provided for in the package of aid measures prepared by the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports (МЕССМ), designed to compensate for the learning losses experienced during the pandemic. 7,5 million was allocated to him. euros.
Currently there are about 14 thousand. students who need help with distance learning - to help them join distance lessons, to strengthen their learning motivation. Another 11 thousand students experience disturbances due to insufficient technological equipment at home.
"This situation is sad. We must ensure equal opportunities for all students to receive quality distance education. These are difficult times for many, but we must pay special attention to the most socially vulnerable children so that they have every opportunity to learn. We also have to do everything so that graduates can prepare for the exams as best as possible, get all the necessary information and help and receive special attention from pedagogues", says the Minister of Education, Science and Sports Jurgita Šiugždinienė.
The assistance measures plan prepared by the Ministry envisages that graduates will be counseled by teachers and university professors during remote open classes. Additional consultations will be held for twelfth-grade Lithuanian language and mathematics teachers on helping students prepare for matriculation exams. There is already a tool that allows you to use the tasks of previous matriculation exams. In order to reduce the stress experienced by graduates, Lithuanian language and literature credits have already been abandoned.
Regular distance consultations for school heads and deputy heads of education regarding the organization and quality of distance education are already being organized - the first conference is taking place today. Also planned events for teachers regarding distance education methodology and didactics.
Help for children from socially vulnerable families
The Ministry of Education, Science and Sports proposed to legalize the provision that distance education, supervision and free meals would be provided at a school, daycare center or other institution designated by the municipality for students who find it difficult to learn at home and who, according to the decision of the Child Welfare Commission, need care in an institution.
ŠMSM together with the Ministry of Social Security and Labor developed an algorithm that would help schools identify students who need additional support for remote learning. It is planned to use volunteers from non-governmental organizations to help look after these children in schools, day care centers or youth centers, and help them prepare their homework.
Additional funds will also be allocated to individual counseling provided to struggling students by their teachers to help reduce learning gaps. In the summer, camps are planned for these students, where they will improve their mathematical and science literacy through various activities.
The Ministry will allocate up to 6 million euros to buy laptops with internet connection for schools. They are intended for students who still do not have the appropriate means of distance learning.
In addition, additional funds for digital development have been allocated to schools this year - EUR 30 per student. In total, more than 10 million have been earmarked for this purpose. EUR, or five times more than was expected in previous years in the targeted "basket" grant. From these funds, schools will be able to provide students with the necessary digital content or additional computer equipment, and improve the digital literacy competence of teachers.
