Almost 600 future first-graders of the capital have not yet been admitted to any of the educational institutions specified in their applications, they will still be able to apply for vacant places in other schools.
As Alina Kovalevskaja, head of the Department of Education, Culture and Sports of the Vilnius Municipality, informed BNS, a total of 6342 applications to study in the first grades in the capital were received this year, and 570 future first-graders are still waiting for their invitations.
"We would like to inform parents who have not yet received an invitation for their children to study in Vilnius city schools according to primary or basic education programs that admission to study is still ongoing. School student admission commissions will meet again on June 15-16. The requests of persons who have not received a single offer to study will be examined first," said A. Kovalevskaja.
According to her, parents will be able to approve invitations from June 17 to 20. If there are still students who have not received a single invitation to the desired schools, they will still participate in the additional admission in August. Then they will have to adjust the previously submitted application and choose from all the schools in the capital.
A. Kovalevskaja notes that some of the parents who submitted applications to two or three educational institutions had not yet confirmed the invitations on Wednesday and could do so until Wednesday midnight. If this action is not taken, the child will automatically be assigned a place in the first specified educational institution.
Those who submitted only one application and received a place at the school no longer need invitations to confirm, they should only come to the school to sign the contract.
Edita Tamošiūnaitė, the vice-mayor of Vilnius responsible for education, told BNS that places should become available when parents finish approving applications. According to her, last year more than 1600 children did not enter the first grades during the first admission.
Unforeseen cases will be decided by the municipal commission, but the vice-mayor guaranteed that all first-graders will be admitted to educational institutions, but not necessarily to the desired ones.
"Of course, according to the law, there is such an obligation and we must fulfill it. Yes, parents seek to enter the desired school, but (children enter - BNS) according to the assigned territory", said E. Tamošiūnaitė.
In total, this year the municipality received almost 12,3 thousand. of applications to study in the capital's schools from September 1. 5 applications were submitted for the 1775th grade, 247 children have not yet received invitations, 9 children applied for the 2925th grade in schools, 132 applications have not been approved. All 11 applications have been approved for the 372th grade, and they should receive invitations to study by the end of June.
Among the kindergartens, not everyone secured a place either - since September 1, about 7400 children have been assigned to kindergartens. By the end of May, 850 parents have not yet signed the contracts, and the children waiting in line for kindergarten have been assigned to these vacant places.
According to E. Tamošiūnaitė, there were still about 2 people waiting in the queues in May, but as September approaches, this number is expected to decrease, as the municipality is preparing to open several groups of kindergartens in several institutions.
According to the vice-mayor, with the council's approval in the near future, a private kindergarten building will be purchased on Papieriaus Street in Naujesii Verkiai, where a municipal kindergarten is expected to be established from September. There would be about ten operating groups - about 140 places for kindergarteners, negotiations are underway for the establishment of groups of kindergarteners in the premises located on Įsrūties street in Pilaitė seniūnia and Žirmūnų street, where private kindergartens operated - here it is expected to create three groups of kindergarteners each, or over 80 places.
"For a month and a half, those receptions will still take place, and we think that almost all of the children will fall. Maybe not for that first choice, but where there are free places, we encourage parents to submit applications", E. Tamošiūnaitė assured.
