Since the matriculation exams and admission to higher education institutions took place later this year due to the threat of the coronavirus, the Minister of Education, Science and Sports Algirdas Monkevičius recommended that higher education institutions organize the start of the academic year for first-year students from September 14.
The final decision on this was taken by the higher education institutions themselves.

According to data for organizing the general admission of the Association of Lithuanian Higher Schools, 20 thousand students will start the new school year this year. 269 freshmen, almost a thousand more than last year. Universities accounted for 11 thousand 708 study contracts with them, and 8561 colleges.
