In the annual global university ranking "QS World University Rankings 2025" Vilnius University (VU) jumped by 34 positions and ended up in 439th place, the positions of Vytautas Didios (VDU) and Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) also improved.
"It is encouraging that we have made significant progress in graduate employment rates and an exceptionally well-rated ratio of students to academic staff. This shows that our commitment to creating human and warm relations in the community is also measured by the success of the ratings", - university rector prof. Rimvydas Petrauskas.
Last year VU took 473rd place in the ranking, 400th the year before that.
The report states that the employment rate of VU graduates improved, compared to last year's data, it rose by 220 positions to 105th place.
This indicator reflects the institutions' ability to ensure a high level of employability of graduates and their influence in their professional fields.
Compared to last year, the ratings of VDU and KTU rose somewhat. VDU is ranked between 741-750 positions, last year - 801-850, KTU this year is among 751-760 world universities, last year - 801-850.
"We are extremely happy with this evaluation of the university. The global competition of universities is growing dramatically, and this year in the QS ranking, in general, significantly more institutions were evaluated than last year, (…) therefore, VMU's rise in the ranking is an extremely significant achievement", - university rector prof. Juozas Augutis.
Vilnius TECH or Vilnius Gediminas Technical University fell in the rankings, last year it was between 801-850, this year the university is ranked between 851-900 positions.
At that time, Mykolas Romeris University maintains the same position and ranks among the best-rated 1001-1200 universities in the world.
In compiling the QS World University Rankings, higher education institutions are evaluated according to a total of eight criteria: academic reputation, reputation among employers, citation rate of research papers, student-faculty ratio in departments, share of foreign professors, university's international research network, number of foreign students and sustainability.
In this year's QS rankings, 5663 institutions from 106 countries of the world were evaluated, of which 21 institutions were ranked for the first time.
The highest positions in this ranking are taken as usual JAV and universities in the United Kingdom: Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Imperial College London, Oxford, Harvard, Cambridge and Stanford universities.
