More than 50 Lithuanian libraries have started printing protective shields for doctors this week, in order to meet the growing need for protective measures in the country due to the spread of the coronavirus.
"54 libraries throughout Lithuania joined the campaign. They take care of the surrounding medical institutions", project coordinator Donatas Kubilius from the Lithuanian National Martynas Mažvydas Library told BNS.
According to him, the work of the library started this week, in the first stage it is planned to print 1500 panels.
The shield helps protect against the droplet-spreading coronavirus, it covers the face, thus reducing the chance of contracting the virus.
The design of the protective shields was developed by the School of Robotics.
The National Library of Lithuania has purchased and installed 58 new 3D printers for Lithuanian public libraries.
Due to the spread of the coronavirus, after the quarantine was announced in the country on March 16, the country's libraries were closed.
