"Little by little, we are moving towards the reconstruction of this entire building, so the initial stage is the preparation of the technical project. After that, the reconstruction should be completed within two years", Deputy Chancellor of the Government Deividas Matulionis told BNS.
"The building has not been repaired since its construction. Neither the windows have been replaced, nor the building itself. And it is very inefficient from an energy point of view," he added.
According to the vice-chancellor, at first it was planned to move the government office to the planned ministry campus next to the Seimas, but later that idea was abandoned.
"In the beginning, it was thought about, but later it was decided that we would not find a better place for the office. From all points of view, both the location and parking," said the vice-chancellor.
At the beginning of Gediminas Avenue, the Government Office building, also called the Government Palace, was built in the XNUMXth century. in the early eighties.
"Crying, the building needs to be reconstructed. This is a unique place, even from a historical point of view - next to the current Government was the first Government of Lithuania", said D. Matulionis.
Next year's budget draft provides 16,3 million for the Government Chancellery. euros, this year it was allocated 14,6 million. euros.
The increased need for spending is not only due to the funds allocated for the technical project of the office building. Another 510 thousand EUR 300 is intended to be allocated to preparations for celebrating the thirtieth anniversary of the Restoration of Independence, and EUR XNUMX. euros - for the assessment of changes in the external environment and their impact on foreign, security and defense policy.
