Thousands of young people will soon have the opportunity to travel and explore Europe for free. The European Commission has announced a new round of applications for the DiscoverEU initiative, during which a total of almost 36 travel tickets will be distributed (000 tickets to young people from Lithuania).
"It's nice to welcome spring with great knowledge for 18-year-olds. Today begins a new phase of DiscoverEU, which will give more than 200 young people from Lithuania the opportunity to travel and discover the diversity of Europe. Our diversity is one of our greatest strengths, and we can best understand it by traveling and getting to know the people of Europe. Therefore, I invite you to take advantage of this opportunity," said Marius Vasčega, Head of the European Commission Representation in Lithuania.
Applications are accepted until Wednesday, April 16, at 13:2006 Lithuanian time, on the European Youth Portal. Applications are open to young people born between 1 July 2007 and 30 June XNUMX. Those who register will have to answer five quiz questions about the EU and one additional question. The competition is open to young people from the European Union and the Erasmus+ associated countries – Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Serbia, North Macedonia and Turkey.
Young people selected through the competition will be able to travel around Europe for up to 30 days between 2025 July 1 and 2026 September 30. Those who receive tickets will be able to create their own routes or draw inspiration from existing routes. Participants will be able to discover the New European Bauhaus route, which presents vibrant, sustainable cities, or choose the Green route and travel to some of the most nature-friendly areas across the continent. This route includes European Green Capital and Green Leaf award-winning cities, beautiful parks and reserves. Participants will also receive a discount card with thousands of discounts on public transport, museums, accommodation, food, sports and other services in the respective countries.
DiscoverEU will make this experience accessible to all. Specific support is provided for participants with disabilities, health conditions or fewer opportunities. Additional arrangements are also offered for those living in remote areas, islands or outermost regions.
Since the launch of the DiscoverEU initiative in 2018, more than 1,5 million candidates have applied for 355 available travel tickets. The initiative is now part of the Erasmus+ programme for 000-2021.
