Most often, Vilnius is presented as a charming city old town listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it boasts natural oases in the center of the city and a rich history. However, modern Vilnius is also a city full of talented creators, modern culture, non-traditional art spaces and bold ideas. In order to reveal a different face of the capital city, the city tourism and business development agency "Go Vilnius" presented the "Guide to Modern Vilnius".
In recent years, Vilnius has been experiencing great positive changes. Also in the field of art. In the past year, as many as four large art centers have appeared in the capital - "MO Museum”, “Tartle”, Samuel Bak Museum and Open Gallery. Each of them is a wonderful private initiative, and I am glad that we were able to encourage and support it, and often contribute seriously. I will do everything from the side of the city so that this pace does not slow down", says the mayor of Vilnius Remigius Šimašius.
"Modern Vilnius Guide" invites you to travel through the streets of the city and open the door to the world of art - from the Litvak heritage in the Samuel Bak Museum to the open-air street art gallery in the Loftas art factory, from the Jonas Mekos Visual Arts Center In Užupi to the "Editorial" project space. No matter what the weather or time of day, you can explore art at any time - the route includes both open-air and indoor galleries.
"Many contemporary Lithuanian artists are famous in the world for their works. We want as many people as possible to learn about the treasure of modern art accumulated in Vilnius. Therefore, the "Modern Vilnius Guide" covers the entire spectrum of art spaces. We hope to help discover not only traditional museums and galleries, but also interesting art phenomena in Vilnius, thus showing Vilnius as a multifaceted city where pleasant surprises await", says Inga Romanovskienė, director of Go Vilnius.
Modern cultural life in Vilnius is active all year round and lives not only in art galleries, so the guide also reviews the most important events, such as ArtVilnius, Culture Night, Loftas Fest and others. The new guide is a good opportunity to make a calendar of cultural acquaintances for the whole year. After all, it is not necessary to visit everywhere at once - art is waiting for you every day in Vilnius.
"Modern Vilnius guide" was created by "Go Vilnius" together with Vilnius city municipalities Department of Foreign Relations and Tourism. It is prepared in Lithuanian, English, German, Russian, Polish and Italian languages. The guide can be downloaded for free from the Vilnius tourism information website at http://vilnius-tourism.lt/ka-pamatyti/rekomenduojame/modernaus-vilniaus-gidas/ or found in Vilnius tourism information centers.
