The European Athletics Indoor Championships will be held in Apeldoorn (Netherlands) at the end of next week, from March 6 to 9. Today, the Council of the Lithuanian Athletics Federation approved a team of 8 athletes that will travel to the European Championships.
Won the right to compete Adas Dambrauskas (60 m) Gabija Galvydytė (800 m) Jogailė Petrokaitė (long jump), Doville Kilty (triple jump), Aina Grikšaite (triple jump), Diana Zagainova (triple jump), Edgar Benkunskas (heptathlon) and Beatrice Juškevičiūtė (60m hurdles and pentathlon).
D. Kilty is already looking forward to her fifth European Indoor Championships, D. Zagainova will participate for the fourth time, J. Petrokaitė for the third time, and A. Grikšaitė for the second time. A. Dambrauskas, G. Galvydytė, E. Benkunskas and B. Juškevičiūtė will make their debuts in the competition. It is true that the Lithuanian team could have been even more numerous, but they will not start in the Netherlands having fulfilled the quota. Irish Maid (high jump), who is continuing her rehabilitation after an injury suffered at the Paris Olympics.
The last European Indoor Championships were held in Istanbul (Turkey) in 2023. 6 Lithuanians participated, with D. Kilty coming in sixth place. The last medal from these championships was brought home by A. Palšytė, who won bronze in Glasgow (Scotland) in 2019.
