On Sunday, historic news echoed in the world of discus throwing – Lithuanian athlete Mykolas Alekna JAV In the competitions held in 2011, he even broke the world record twice in one day. This is an extraordinary event in the history of athletics, further strengthening the Lithuanian's position as the leader in this event.
On his first attempt, Alekna threw the discus 74,89 meters, breaking his own world record, which he set in Ramona last year (74,35 m). But that was just the beginning.
On his fourth attempt, the Lithuanian shone once again – the discus flew as far as 75,57 meters. This impressive result became a new world record, which was until recently held by the legendary German Jürgen Schult – his record of 1986 meters, achieved in 74,08, stood for as long as 38 years, until it was taken over by M. Alekna in 2023.
Australian Matthew Denny, an Olympic medalist, also appeared in the competition in Ramona this year, and a few days ago he even came close to Alekna's record when he achieved the second best result in history (74,25 m). However, this Sunday the Lithuanian once again showed who the real king of the discus throw is.
