Race on Sunday, drive on Monday" (eng. Race on Sunday, drive on Monday) was a very popular slogan among Porsche fans in the fifties. In a world overflowing with experiences and new opportunities, it has remained relevant to this day. The latest project of the Vilnius Porsche center will allow you to touch the origins of this brand. "Porsche Racing Academy" - for those who have already tried it, and maybe those who are just dreaming about the opportunity to race on the track.
The drivers in the competition will have to take care of the main task of racing the Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport, a car designed only for the track. Logistics, communication, technical and organizational work will be taken care of by other members of the team, including the coach, title-winning racer Robertas Kupčikas.
"Sportiness is embedded in Porsche's DNA, and every buyer of this car has a greater or lesser part of it - they are like rebels, in the best sense of the word." In life, Porsche fans never follow the so-called paths, often they have already tried many things. They invest in new experiences and acquiring new skills. Managers of companies located in the Silicon Valley increasingly choose to actively participate in motor sports, we can see such a trend and growing interest in Lithuania as well," says Rasa Klimavičiūtė, director of the Vilnius Porsche Center.
Car prepared for racing
Members of the Porsche team will compete in a factory race-ready Cayman GT4 Clubsport that weighs just 1kg. In the middle of its body is a 300-liter Carrera model engine with the Power Kit package, which reaches 3,8 hp. This is mated to a PDK gearbox that sends the high power to the rear wheels.
This Porsche also has a locked differential, sports ABS and stability systems, an increased capacity fuel tank, an Air Jack car lift system, and the Porsche Track Precision telemetry system, which uses sophisticated sensors to accurately measure everything that happens on the track. All this data is monitored and analyzed and used to improve skills and racing technique. An air conditioning system, rarely found in racing cars, is also installed, which ensures not only the comfort of the driver, but also his alertness in endurance races.
The Porsche is a car perfectly balanced for a variety of circuit races. The mere fact that Porsche models won 11 times in the 1006 km race in Palanga says a lot. We will aim for this number to increase this year," says R. Kupčikas, coach of the newly created team and head of the "Porsche Driving" project in Lithuania and in Latvia.
Kupčikas is one of the most titled Lithuanian racers, having won twice in the international "Volkswagen Castrol Cup" cup, he has also become the champion of the Polish circuit race, he has climbed on the podium of the 1006 km race in Palanga several times, and he was chosen as the best Lithuanian racer.
Racing series
The Porsche team intends to participate in all the main circuit races held in the Baltic States: this year it would be the 1 km race in Palanga, the Baltic Endurance Racing Championship (BEC) and the Baltic Circuit Racing Championship (BaTCC), the Lithuanian Circuit Racing Championship.
In 2019, it is planned to offer participation in other European and global long-distance endurance races.
License required
Drivers will need to obtain their racing licenses before driving in professional motorsport competitions. Porsche representatives will help prepare for this and will organize training on the Auto24Ring track in Estonia: their participants will receive a 10-hour theory and practice training methodology course for a professional driver, and together with R. Kupčiks will analyze various aspects of sports driving.
"The Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport team car is completely new and capable of showing the highest results, the team's mechanics and strategists have participated in many competitions in different countries and achieved high results. We set ourselves ambitious goals and believe that by gathering a group of professional drivers we will be able to fight for the top places", says Porsche driving instructor R. Kupčikas.
