The first victory in the championship was won by the "Vilnius TECH" team. She defeated Raseiniai "Lūšies Volley" club 3-1 (25:19, 24:26, 25:13, 25:22) away. Mykolas Suchanekas (25 points) and Tautvydas Pranys (20 points) led Vilnius forward. Justinas Laurinavicius scored 18 points for the hosts, Aurimas Dyglys scored 12.
"Vilnius TECH" coach Radoslavas Adamovičius is happy with the opportunity to participate in the Lithuanian championship and for that he is grateful to "Vilnius TECH" University, which finances the trips and provides the infrastructure. According to him, the team does not have sponsors, so the players do not feel additional tension, and the main task is to give a good fight to the opponents and great emotions to the spectators.
"The match in Raseiniai was not easy, because there was an imbalance after the holidays. We made an uncharacteristic number of mistakes for us. After losing the second set, we drew conclusions, strengthened our serve, and began to make better use of our opponents' weaknesses, i.e. the lack of height on the sides. Our wing forwards coped well with the attack, and the centers successfully stopped the attacks of Raseiniški. This, I think, led to the victory," said R. Adamovičius.
The coach believes that by maintaining the same enthusiasm, "Vilnius TECH" can surprise more than one team this season.
"I am most pleased with the atmosphere in the team, which consists of students from various cities in Lithuania. They get along well and work hard during training, because M. Suchanek, who has many years of experience in the league, joined us this season. His tandem with T. Prani brings a lot of good energy and confidence to the whole team. If we continue our work at a similar pace, we have every chance of getting into the top four," emphasized R. Adamovičius.
Raseiniai club failed to win on Saturday as well, when they had to admit the superiority of Alytus Ultra in the away match 0-3 (23:25, 17:25, 26:28). Nedas Danulevičius scored 17 points for Alytis, and Matas Navarskas scored 9. Among the losers, A. Dyglys (12 points) and J. Laurinavičius stood out.
In the next match of the weekend, "Sūduva" from Marijampolė beat Vilnius District Sports Center 3-0 (25:23, 25:9, 25:15) at home. Augustinas Želvys scored 13 points for the Marijampole team, Algirdas Naucius scored 11, and Audrius Kasparavičius scored 10. In the visiting team, E. Romanovskis scored 8 points.
"Elga-Grafaitė-SC Dubysa" is leading in the "Meister Kodo" Lithuanian men's volleyball championship (12 points). "Ultra" (8 points) and Vilnius University (7 points).
