On Saturday "Avia Solutions Group"Betsafe-LKL" the match between Vilnius "Ryto" and Vilnius "Wolves" was not without disturbances.
During the match, insulting shouts and gestures started to spread from the "Ryto" club's fan sector towards the "Wolves" team and its fans, and foreign objects were thrown into the box of the VIP arena.
After the match ended, the conflict escalated and "Ryto" fans climbed into the VIP box of the arena administration, where the arena and Wolves club administration staff were watching the match.
Disturbances also took place in the arena areas closer to the pitch, paraphernalia of the fans of the organizing club flew onto the pitch, additional protection was also needed near the "Wolves" bench.
The arena took care of security during the event, in accordance with the obligations stipulated in the agreement with the organizer. As the conflict continued, on the initiative of the arena's administration, police officers were immediately called, and upon their arrival, the incident was quelled.
In response to the comments that appeared in the public space about the lack of security, Avia Solutions Group Arena Director Andrius Žiauberis commented on the situation:
"We regret the inconvenience caused to the visitors of the arena, we are very concerned about the incident that happened on Saturday, nothing like this has happened in the arena before. We are glad that the situation was brought under control and no one was physically harmed during it. The security of the events taking place in the arena is our priority, therefore we always establish an agreement with the event organizers regarding the basic number of security personnel that the organizer assigns us to ensure, as well as the organizer's obligation to assess potential threats and inform the arena administration about the need for additional security.
After the incident, we initiated a meeting with the security company that worked at the event and discussed the actions that must be implemented in order to ensure the safety of event participants. Recommendations will soon reach us, which we will share with the "Ryto" club, but it is already clear that this type of match requires a much larger number of security personnel than the basic one. After receiving the recommendations, we will decide exactly how much the number of security personnel should be increased and we will ask the "Ryto" club administration for that. We must ensure all conditions so that such or similar situations do not occur in the future", A. Žiauberis emphasized the importance of security.
"Once again, we regret the inconvenience caused and hope that such risks can be avoided in the future. For our part, we will continue to cooperate with the security and "Ryto" club and we will strive to implement all the recommendations presented and to ensure the safety of all the participants of the arena events", said the manager of the arena.
