Lithuanian swimmers started hunting for Olympic tickets. On Friday, the two-day Baltic Swimming Championship started in Riga - it is the first official competition in Europe, where swimmers can already fulfill the qualification standards for the Paris Olympic Games.
Athletes from Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia compete here in three age groups. In the first part of the championship, the champions and prize-winners of the junior and youth Olympic events were awarded, and the participants who performed best in the morning selection made it to the final swims in the evening program.
In the youth age group, he became the champion of the Baltic countries in individual competitions Tajus Juška (100m breaststroke – 52,58 seconds), Stella Švenčionytė (200m breaststroke - 2.09,13 min.), Dominykas Šulskis (200 m breaststroke - 2.26,43 min. PB), Mantas Kaušpėdas (100 m backstroke - 59.10 sec.) and Giedrius Cirtautas (400 m l. style - 4.16,35 min.).
They won gold medals in the youth group Ieva Visockaitė (200m breaststroke - 2.09,35 min.), Patricija Geriksonaitė (200 m backstroke - 2.23,82 min.), Emil Atkočiūnas (200 m butterfly - 2.10,37 min.), Dziugas Miškinis (400 m l. style - 4.11,09 min.) and Smiltė Plytnykaitė (50m breaststroke - 25.89 sec.).
The Lithuanians also did well in the team relays on Friday morning. The boys competed in the 4 x 100 m medley and the girls in the 4 x 100 m freestyle.
Among the young, the winners were M. Kaušpėdas, D. Šulskis, T. Juška and Artas Apyny (3.56,69 min.) and Ieva Nainytė, Ema Purvainytė, Ła Kulvinskaite and S. Švenčionytė (4.01,61 min.). The victory was celebrated in the youth age group Evalds Babakinas, Adam Gatulis, E. Atkočiūnas and Matas Kairys (3.52,14 min.) and S. Plytnykaitė, Patricija Kondraškaitė, P. Geriksonaitė and Ieva Visockaitė (3.56,58 min.).
