On Wednesday, the 50 open competition begins in the 2023 m swimming pool of Kaunas "Girstutis". Lithuanian swimming championship. The four-day competition is one of the most important starts for our country's swimmers this year.
The participants of the competition will be able not only to fulfill the qualification standards for the World Aquatics World Swimming Championships, which will be held on July 23-30 in Fukuoka, Japan, but also for the Summer Olympic Games, which will be held in Paris next year.
After the Lithuanian championship, it should also become clear who will represent Lithuania at the European Youth Swimming Championship, the European Youth Olympic Festival and the first-ever European U23 Swimming Championship.
Beautiful Rūta Meilutytė, Džiugas Miškinis, Andrius Šidlauskas and Kotryna Teterevkova, who recently returned from the training camp in the Sierra Nevada mountains in Spain, are going to start. Danas Rapšys will miss the national championship because he will appear in the international competition in Stockholm, Sweden on April 13-16.
Last year Klaipėda Edvinas Česnakas, Patricija Geriksonaitė, Erikas Grigaitis, Radvilė Kerševičiūtė, Smiltė Plytnykaitė, Agnė Šeleikaitė will defend the championship titles won.
Tajus Juška, Mantas Kaušpėdas, Silvija Statkevičius, Kristupas Trepočka and other national swimmers who are successfully improving the records of their peers will also compete in the championship.
In total, almost a quarter of a hundred swimmers will compete in the "Girstutis" swimming pool. Competition for the locals will be guests from Latvia, Estonia and Lebanon.
Prize money will be awarded to the top six swimmers with the highest results in the competition, based on the sum of the top three WA (FINA) individual Olympic rankings.
During four days, the athletes will distribute 41 sets of medals.
Qualifying swims will start at 11 am on Wednesday. (Thursday - Saturday - from 10 a.m.), and the evening part is scheduled to start at 18 p.m. (Thursday and Friday - 17:15.30 p.m., Saturday - XNUMX:XNUMX p.m.).
The championship is organized by the Lithuanian Swimming Federation, the partner of the competition is the "Girstučio" swimming pool.
