The draw for the Billie Jean King Cup Group 8 tournament, which will take place at the SEB Arena in Vilnius on April 12-XNUMX, was made at the International Tennis Federation headquarters in London, according to a press release from the LTS.
The Lithuanian women's tennis team has been drawn into Group B, where it will face Slovenia and Serbia.
Group A will feature France, Turkey and Sweden, Group C – Belgium, Hungary and Greece, and Group D – Austria, Latvia, Portugal and Croatia.
The results of the group stage matches will determine which two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals of the tournament, and which will have to fight for survival in the first group of the Billie Jean King Cup.
Laurynas Grigelis, who took over the helm of the Lithuanian women's tennis team, invited Justina Mikulskytė (WTA-205), Klaudija Bubelytė (WTA-498), Patricija Paukstytė (WTA-694) and Andrė Lukošiūtė (WTA-1368) to the team.
The Billie Jean King Cup Group I tournament will be held on five courts at the SEB Arena, with three more courts set aside for tennis players' training. A total of nearly 3,5 tennis balls will be used for matches and training.
The matches will be refereed by 9 tower and 45 line judges, and over three dozen children will serve the tennis players with balls.
It is planned that a total of over 300 people will arrive in Vilnius - players, coaches, service personnel, federation representatives, and referees.
The four teams that performed best in Vilnius will advance to the higher group of the Billie Jean King Cup.
The Lithuanian women's national team won the right to play in the first group of the competition in the second group tournament held at the SEB Arena last year. Together with the Lithuanians, the Croatian team also advanced to the higher group.
