THE BEST OF VILNIUS: The best community in 2020

The MadeinVilnius.lt portal continues to announce the nominees of the exclusive Vilnius city awards "Vilnius best 2020". The awards are intended to uniquely mark the best places, projects, communities and people of the year.

Awards are divided into 6 categories: "Best Project 2020", "Best restaurant/cafe/bar 2020″, “Best Community 2020″, “Debut of the Year 2020″, “Best Place 2020″, “Vilnius of the Year 2020″.

"Best of Vilnius 2020" is being organized for the first time.

NOMINATION: Best Community 2020

Today we present the selected communities of Vilnius city microdistricts, which this year defended the rights of their residents the most, are the most active in the city's activities and in the public space. It is worth noting that the rights were defended in a civilized, reasoned and constructive way by expressing their criticism.

Tarande community

For the campaign "For a safe Tarande". The community of Vilnius Tarandė asked the state institutions and the municipalities of the city and district of Vilnius to urgently solve their communication problems, which have been arising for several years after the opening of the capital's Western Bypass.

Perkunkiemi community 

For the fight for parking spaces and against the construction of new apartment buildings. The community of Perkūnkiem applied to the authorities this year for more than 800 unequipped parking spaces. The community also demanded to stop the construction plans of a new apartment building on Girulių street.

Glass Quarter Community

For optimism and belief that life does not end when the quarantine is declared. The glass quarter continues to surprise Vilnius residents even during the quarantine. Every season, the community decorates and nurtures Stiklių street.

New Vilnius city community

For destroying myths about New Vilnius. New Vilnius little by little it recovers and becomes more beautiful, more and more public and cultural places appear.

Community of spies

For the initiatives of "Dragon Meadow". Positive changes are planned for Snipiškės in the creation of new spaces for community gathering and active spending of time.

As the architects cooperated with the active community of Šnipiškii, it was decided that the "Drakono pieva" will be adapted to the needs of local residents and purposefully divided into a recreation area, spaces for children's games and active leisure.

Pilaite community

For intensive cooperation in designing the Tolminkiemi high school.

The architects strongly raised the design standards of the city's educational institutions, and this was helped by the involvement of the enterprising Pilaitė community in the design processes of the gymnasium. Thanks to this, the community has a project that meets its expectations.

Zoo community

For fighting builders. The community of Žvėrynas had something to do with real estate developers this year like no other. This year, the community explained why the Žvērynas ponds are drying up, defended the historic mill ponds, fought for the change of the Eduard Balsis square reconstruction project, the expected expansion of the Žvērynas stadium and other constructions.
